Reduce of Waste and Increase of Line Yield for Solar Glass
A firm eye on quality: PATTERNSCAN-Ribbon

A firm eye on quality: PATTERNSCAN-Ribbon

Within the solar and photovoltaic industries the condition of the glass substrate is critical to the final quality of the completed modules. Further, given the typical product guarantee period of 20 or more years, it is essential to be certain that, among other requirements, the cover glass is fitted in pristine condition. The most effective way of ensuring this is through automated inspection, with the selected system located directly after the furnace and cooling zones. The requirement to detect and distinguish defects - typically open and closed bubbles, stones and knots - in this harsh environment is challenging.

The new PATTERNSCAN-Ribbon inspection system comprehensively facilitates these requirements. The system is designed to see all defects in the glass as well on the glass surface. While fully automated, safe and cost-effective, its smart design makes the detection and subsequent differentiation of all defects possible. A further advance is the automatic, pre-configured defect classifier QUICKTEACH - a learning classification software that allows defects to be classified accurately and quickly. Data from detected defects are compared with data from the training defect set to determine defect type. At any time during production, new defect classes can be defined. This way, the inspection system can reach its maximum performance level, and do it extremely quickly.
